Anguilla is the culinary capital of the Caribbean, home to over 70 restaurants in the span of 35 square miles. For visitors with an enthusiasm for experiencing new cuisines, Anguilla has a myriad of experiences to offer during your time here. Below, we’ve put together a day to day guide to making the most out of your epicurean experience on Anguilla.
Day 1: Straw Hat
Located on the West End of the island, Straw Hat is a fantastic choice for your first day in Anguilla, no matter whether you arrive in time for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. They even have a kids menu, making this spot a great stop for your family vacation. Start off the day with a Meads Bay Omelet (packed with local seafood), get the blackened lobster and shrimp tacos for lunch, or wrap up your night with curried goat. You can also try the Anguilla crayfish, cousin to the Caribbean lobster. The crayfish has a sweet and tender meat that visitors love!
Day 2: Blanchard’s Beach Shack
There are many beach shacks on Anguilla, but Blanchard’s Beach Shack is probably the most famous. Nestled on the West End not far from Straw Hat, Blanchard’s Beach Shack is an institution in the Anguillan food scene. The sister restaurant of the formal Blanchard’s Restaurant offers fresh salads, hearty rice bowls, fish tacos, spicy jerk chicken sandwiches, burgers, homemade desserts, and frozen drinks—the perfect beach day pairing.
Day 3: da’Vida
da’Vida is a favorite among visitors for both its relaxed atmosphere and its high-class menu of fine cuisine with global influences. Start off with bay conch carpaccio or a bay garden lobster spring roll, then dine on pan seared miso grouper, grilled Crocus Bay lobster, herb crusted rack of lamb, and other decadent dishes.
Day 4: Sunshine Shack
Sunshine Shack serves up tasty, mouthwatering Anguillan barbecue from a cheerful and bright stand located at Rendezvous Bay near The Valley, not far from CuisinArt Golf Course. The menu is simple, but so good.
Day 5: Hibernia Restaurant & Art Gallery
Equal parts restaurant and gallery, Hibernia is best appreciated by those with exotic tastes. The menu is a fusion of French, Japanese, and Thai cuisines, while the gallery houses paintings, tapestries, sculptures, and jewelry from around the world.
Day 6: Sandy Island
This small, secluded cay just offshore from Sandy Ground is home to a delicious Anguillan restaurant known for its strong rum punch and freshly caught seafood offerings, including its renowned grilled Anguillan lobster served with coconut and ginger sauce.
Day 7: Gwen’s Reggae Bar and Grill
People flock to Gwen’s from miles around for the delicious food, incredible beach setting, and phenomenal live music. You can find Gwen’s at Shoal Bay East, near Zemi Beach House. Classic barbecue fare pairs wonderfully with a day at the beach.
